The Crest of Light (Digimon Adventure Episode 49)

(Check out part 48 if you missed it HERE. To go back to the beginning click HERE)

After Machinedramon attacked, the Digidestined fell below the Digital city into the sewer system below. Kari, T.K. and Sora became separated from Tai and Izzy during the fall and now the two separate groups are searching for one another to regroup and continue their battle against Machinedramon.

Kari’s fever seems to have abated and the group begins to traverse the caverns of the city. As they travel through the tunnels, they find a generator run by slave labor. WaruMonzaemon is a brutal taskmaster who has many Numemon under his supervision as slaves. The Numemon are pushed beyond their limits and seem visibly demoralized and beaten. As T.K. and Sora distract WaruMonzaemon, Kari frees the Numemon and is dubbed Queen Kari as their saviour. Meanwhile, Patamon and Biyomon are too weak and tired to Digivolve into their Champion forms and must run from WaruMonzaemon instead of fighting.

When they return to the part of sewer where Kari and the Numemon are, Kari begins to glow and her Crest of Light emanates energy toward all three of the Digivices. This energy allows not only Gatomon to Digivolve into Angewomon, but Patamon and Biyomon to Digivolve into Angemon and Birdramon respectively. Everyone’s favorite Hey Digimon! Theme plays out as they attack and defeat WaruMonzaemon and find that Kari’s light is still emanating from her body. She begins to manifest a pointed light that directs the Digidestined back in the direction of Tai and Izzy, and the three head in their direction, this time with hundreds of Numemon in tow as friends.

In the meantime, Tai has been leading Izzy, Agumon, and Tentomon on a forced march to find Kari and the others. They are tired and dehydrated, but Tai keeps pushing them on in an effort to find Kari as soon as possible (after all, she was still feeling ill when he last saw her and the fall could have hurt her or made her sickness worse through bodily stress). Izzy suggests that they take a break and that Tai stops forcing them onward when the strain could potentially prove fatal to their Digimon partners. This angers Tai, who lashes out at Izzy and punches his friend in the face.

Luckily, Andromon shows up from down-sewer which urges Tai and Izzy to quit fighting. It seems that Andromon has been living in the sewers and building up a resistance movement against Machinedramon and his metal machine lackeys. He has hitherto been completely unsuccessful in his attempts to do so, but has now found the Digidestined to help him out.

Machinedramon shows up and attacks while Andromon holds him off and advises the Digidestined to escape. Agumon and Tentomon are unable to Digivolve due to weakness and as a result, Tai and Izzy decide to run. That is until Kari and the others turn up and begin fighting alongside Machinedramon. But even two Ultimates and two Champion level Digimon are too weak to defeat him. The Numemon swarm Machinedramon and are destroyed by him in one fell swoop, creating new martyrs for the cause. Finally, Agumon is able to Warp Digivolve into WarGreymon and defeats Machinedramon by chopping him into pieces.

As the Machinedramon City dissolves, the Digidestined and Andromon make their escapes. One more Dark Master defeated, one more to go.
